Apparently characters can not be copyrighted, even with Deviant Art's 'creative copyright' policy...see...according to the Help Desk, Walker and Sam (whom most, if not all of my watchers, and various people on DA such as members of roleplaying chatrooms know are my creations,) don't really belong to me, since you can't copyright/creative common license ideas, plot lines, characters, etc.

So I'd like to know what the HELL the Creative Commons Licensing is...

According to Wikipedia; [link] it means that a creator of something, such as a character, or two, can, at any time as they see fit, reserve their rights as a Creative Commons License holder, which includes the right to tell someone that they can not use their material for profit, or that they do not want their creative property to be distributed in a certain manner. The Creative Commons license DOES NOT mean that the creator is giving up their copyright.

Which, if I understand correctly, means that a person who is responsible for creating a set of characters can, at any time, tell another artist that they can not use their characters/creations, REGARDLESS of past permission; especially since there's a clause in the Creative Licensing agreement which says that the creator reserves rights to their copyright, and to be selective with which CC laws they wish to ignore and which to follow. At least that's the legal affectation of it.

So, since DeviantArt's creative commons licensing apparently doesn't stand, why is it on DA to begin with?

My guess, it's there for the Admins and Help Desk operators (and art/character thieves) to exploit for 'teh lulz'.

...all I can say is that professional authors, artists, game/tv developers, inventors, entrepreneurs, etc. had better 'watch their backs', since their characters, ideas, improvements, future ideas, etc. according to the conclusion one can logically draw from the Help Desk's argument, are also fair game. After all, if you can't copyright characters,ideas, and concepts what's to stop someone from stealing them?
